“We are not makers of history. We are made by history.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. King was right. What has happened in the past
has a direct influence on what we do today, and what
we can do tomorrow. We are not limited by our
history – but with proper knowledge, we can become
inspired by our history. That truth is the motivation
behind the Arkansas African American Sports Center.

Celebrate African American Sports

Our mission is to celebrate the achievements and sacrifices made by African American Athletes in the state of Arkansas, past, present, and future. From the first black athletes to wear a Razorback uniform facing racial persecution and discrimination, to the coaches and staff that helped pave the way for these young men and women – there are many stories to be told. Extraordinary actions deserve extraordinary attention.

In cooperation with Mosaic Templars Cultural Center in Little Rock, AR, the Arkansas African American Sports Center is the first institution in the state of Arkansas to officially recognize the incredible history of the African American Athlete in the University of Arkansas system. Over the last two years, we have been pleased to host two events acknowledging former Razorback football, basketball, track, and baseball athletes and coaches. These events received international recognition in the media but more importantly, they provided a venue for those being honored to remember and relive. Memories were shared, tears were shed, due recognition was given. This spring, it will be our honor to recognize Razorback women that have made outstanding contributions in their athletic endeavors.

Preserve Our History

Please join us in our endeavor to preserve and teach the rich history that is uniquely ours. Sacrifices have been, and continue to be, made by African American Athletes in our state. We feel it is our duty and privilege to tell their story.

There are few things in life that bring people together the way sports does.
